Sometimes life throws you curveballs.all you have to do is decide to swing or not.
A few weeks ago I lost my job unexpectedly. Since then I have been job hunting, frantically trying to pay bills and trying to keep my chin up. It isn't easy. It's humbling to have to ask for help. I'm grateful to the many organizations who have helped me in these last few weeks.
I wouldn't have made it without them.
I want to day something about humility. I believe that to be humble is often misunderstood. It's viewed as "lowering one's self for the sake of others" or "having a humble attitude is self serving". Neither one hold the whole truth. When you stand in line at the local food pantry, waiting your turn patiently, that's humility. When you choose to give rather than receive even if you aren't exactly in a position of giving, that's humility. Choosing someone else's needs before your own, that's humility.
It is humbling to ask someone for money to pay a bill. Or to ask for help looking for a job.
The last few weeks I have eaten my share of humble pie. And that's OK.
